Güzelyurt Tour
Located on the west coast, in a fertile alluvial plain, the Güzelyurt (or Morphou) region is often referred to as the "Orchard of Cyprus". The word Güzelyurt literally means "Beautiful country". Our tour will first take you to the St. Mamas Monastery, built in the 18th century over the tomb of a saint. According to legend, St. Mamas is the patron saint of tax evaders.
Next, you will visit the Güzelyurt Museum, located right next to the church. This archaeology and natural history museum houses a remarkable collection of archaeological finds dating back to the 8th century BC. The various stuffed animals on display will also give you a close look at the richness of the local fauna. Continuing your tour, you will visit the ancient city of Soli. The city's history dates back to the 7th century BC, when the famous Hellenistic philosopher Solon suggested to King Philokypros that he establish his capital in this area. In Soli, you will have the opportunity to see some of the most exquisite floor mosaics of the period.
